Announcements
Introducing the new Office bearers and Committee Members:
Anne Hoggan Dip. Ed. – Committee Secretary
Anne for many years, before her recent retirement, was Head Teacher in three Primary Schools, latterly in Peebles. She is a past Session Clerk of her local Church.
Her first introduction to Dr Graham’s Homes was as a child in Sunday School, a fairly common occurrence in these days. With two friends she joined John Webster’s Tour in 2006. Following this visit to the Homes she inspired her Group of Cupar Quilters to produce sufficient quilts, all aptly embroidered for all the cots in the Nursery Cottage in Dr Graham’s Homes. She returned in 2007 and presented them to delighted youngsters.
We are delighted that she has accepted our invitation to be Secretary to the Management Committee and she will be happy to respond to any questions you may have.
James Simpson TD BSc CEng MICE – Sponsorship Secretary
The Management Committee are pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Jim Simpson as Sponsorship Secretary. Jim was appointed from a strong group of applicants and looks forward to being in touch with you. He will welcome any enquiries you may wish to make. Sponsorship communications should now be addressed to Mr Simpson. Jim is a Consultant Civil Engineer and was for twelve years the Glasgow Chairman of Action Medical Research. He is an active member of New Kilpatrick Church, Bearsden. Of special interest is the fact that Jim's Grandfather was the first Headmaster in Dr Graham's Homes holding the office from 1903 - 1931. Jim's Father was born in Kalimpong in 1906. With his wife, Pat, Jim paid his first visit to the Homes with John Webster's Tour in November, 2008 and this cemented a long held desire to help further the work of the Homes. We are delighted to welcome Jim to this busy, exciting, and important position and extend to him our best wishes in his role as Sponsorship Secretary.
Lesley Walker – Committee Member
Lesley is uniquely suited for a position on the Committee. The elder daughter of James Minto (former Principal) and Rosemary (former Head of the Junior School), she received her first eight years of education in Dr Graham's Homes. She is an Hons. Graduate in History and has held several responsible posts in Business Companies.
Aileen Fraser – Committee Member
Aileen has been a regular visitor to the Homes with the Annual November Tours. She is an enthusiastic Sponsor of children - as an individual, through her Church and through Troon Friends of Kalimpong of which she is one of the founders. She, too, is an Hons. Graduate in History and has recently retired as a Principal Teacher in that subject.
Margaretta Purtill – Committee Member
Margaretta joins the Management Committee as the elected member of the Kalimpong association U.K., (this Association exists, primarily for former pupils of Dr Graham’s Homes.) Margaretta was a pupil at the Homes from 1950 to 1962. Margaretta is a tireless worker for the Kalimpong Association and has been their President since 2001. She is employed by the Sainsbury Family Trust.
