Stonehaven Concert for DGH!
On Thursday 27th October, the Fetteresso Church at Stonehaven, a small town south of Aberdeen, played host to a musical evening, to raise funds for Dr. Graham's Homes, Kalimpong. The evening was organised by Frank Dunn, who, along with his daughter Karen, will be participating in the Bike Bengal 2012 event in February 2012. Frank and his wife Sandra also sponsor a wee lad, Alex, at the Homes, and Frank will be riding the Kolkata to Kalimpong route for the second time. In February 2008, he was accompanied by his son Neil, who became the mascot of the Nepali support team and was affectionately dubbed 'hamaro Saathi' - simply 'our friend'! Perhaps it was because of his youth and the endearing quality to puncture his cycle tyres frequently!

Some 150+ residents of this small Aberdeenshire town, that has a history of fishing but now supports the thriving offshore oil sector in the North Sea, attended the event. The musical evening was themed 'The Circle of Life' and featured a collection of songs from famous musicals, beautifully sung by soloist Marjory Watson, a well known Scottish singer and a Lecturer in Singing at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. She was accompanied on the piano by her husband Stuart. Their services for the evening was free and she had for company two budding young singers from a local school - Anna Blair and Andrew Dickinson.
Ken Hammond, from the UK Committee for Dr Graham's Homes, was invited to say a few words on the history and work of Dr Graham's Homes, Kalimpong and the recent earthquake which devastated the school. He appealed for funds to support the rebuilding of the school and thanked the audience for their interest and support of Frank and Karen on their Bike Bengal 2012 quest.
It was a wonderful musical evening and a great opportunity to share the story of Dr Graham's Homes. A sum of £1,300+ was raised during the course of the evening and, on behalf of Frank & his family and the UK Committee Dr Graham's Homes, we would like to thank all those who attended the event, for their kindness and generosity in giving up their time and donating money to a worthy cause.
