The role of the UK Committee (along with other groups around the world) is to publicise Dr. Graham’s Homes School, to raise funds for the school and to seek sponsors who will support these children in their education by paying for their boarding and schooling and giving them the opportunity to support themselves and attain self respect, as they reach adulthood.
More About the UK Committee
The UK Committee for Dr Graham's Homes (Kalimpong, India) is a charity registered in Scotland (SC 016341).
In 1989 The London Committee merged with the long established Scottish Committee to become known as The UK Committee.
The Committee’s function is to promote Dr Graham’s Homes, to provide financial support for deprived and destitute Anglo Indian children through the Child Sponsorship Scheme, and to provide funds for the upkeep of the properties.
The Committee aims to raise over £200,000 each year through fundraising events and is grateful for donations received from Well-wishers, Annual Subscriptions, Trust Funds, Legacies, Churches, Schools and Sponsorship.
Through such support the Committee in recent years has financed some major restoration projects including The Catherine Graham Memorial Chapel, The Swimming Pool, The Steel memorial Clinic and The Lucia King Nursery and well as upgrading Cottages and roads and the refurbishment of some classrooms. However the focus of the work centres round the children from deprived areas of Kolkata as well as the surrounding districts.
